The Best Places to Scoot Australia

You've got your scooters at the ready, now you just need to know where the best places are to go for a fun scooting adventure. Maybe you're looking for somewhere different to go in your city, or you're taking your scooters on holiday with you and want the low down on where to scoot when you get there. It can be a bit of a mission to find out - so we had this idea; let's create an interactive map and call on scooter riders Australia wide to share their favourites. We asked some of Australia's best bloggers who have kick-started the project with awesome ideas from Brisbane to Melbourne. And now we're asking you.

Melbourne

For the seventh year in a row, Melbourne has been named the most liveable city in the world. And it's right up there for the title of most scootable too. Melbourne is full of great places to take the kids on scooters whether you like the peace and tranquility of beautiful parklands or getting a bit of culture along the Yarra you're spoilt for choice. Here are the latest hot spots in Melbourne to take your scooters and have some fun...

Royal Botanic Gardens

The Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne is a picturesque park a stone’s throw away from Southbank or central city. It has hundreds of scoot-able tracks for all ages; choose to scoot along the river or in the depths of the various themed gardens. It has a track suited to everyone, not to mention endless activities for the kids with a lake, playground and much much more.

Jells Park

Jells Park has some seriously stunning Australian scenery to scoot amongst. There is wildlife to see at every turn with a total of 9km of paths and trails to choose from. The scoot-able tracks range in degrees of difficulty with many a BBQ and playground that could be used as pit stop along the way. Scooting next to billabongs is not only exciting but provides the perfect chance to grab a snap of your little explorer.

Kate Nelson, Meetoo

Best place: Docklands, Melbourne

With wide boulevard type paths, parks with winding paths, the Webb Bridge and plenty of ground to cover – scooting is the only way to get around the Docklands.

Not only did we have bitumen and concrete paths along the way but we also had wooden boardwalks and even perforated metal – which made for some fun textures (nothing our scooters couldn’t easily handle). In our travels we crossed two roads – and otherwise we were on paths that were shared for bikes and pedestrians (so nice and wide).

Best place: Westerfold's Park, Melbourne

Located in Melbourne’s east in Templestowe and the city of Manningham, Westerfold's Park provides a stunning natural backdrop for family scooting adventures. Traditionally thought of as an urban activity, scooting at Westerfold's Park takes scooting into the bush.

Tracey, Melbourne Mamma

Best places: Brimbank Park, Keilor East | Maribyrnong River Loop and Lincoln Park, Essendon

Lincoln Park is perfect for kids of all ages to scoot. The large open space has bicycle paths looping through and around the park, so you can keep an eye on the kids as they’re scooting – if you don’t have a scooter yourself (like me) to follow them.

Jody, Six Little Hearts

Best place: The Warburton Trail

The Warburton Trail is a retired railway line which extends from Lilydale in Melbourne's outer-east, all the way to the quaint country township of Warburton. The Millgrove area has a long stint of smooth paving which is perfect for these activities. Millgrove also has a small township, complete with a fish and chippery for exercise-induced hunger pangs. In our opinion, this area offers one of the best places to scoot in Melbourne's eastern burbs.

Adrienne, The Stylish Bump

Best place: All Nations Park

Surrounded by lovely big gum trees and lots of green grass, the 13 hectare regional park is situated on an elevated site, so has small and large hills with a steady climb to the top of the hill to a panoramic view of the Melbourne City Skyline.

Joyce, Tot Hot or Not

Best Place: Altona Beach

Altona Beach is a gloriously wide beach on the western side of Port Phillip Bay framed by huge Norfolk pines on the shoreline. Running all the way along the long sand line is a smooth bike/walking track that’s just perfect for scooters.

Sydney & Beyond

Sydney, with its miles of beautiful beaches, lush gardens and iconic waterfront is a scooter lover's dream destination. Whether you scoot the harbour bridge at sunset, or do a beach crawl from Bondi to Coogee there's fun for everyone. We'd love to know where you like to scoot in NSW so we can fill the map with and make it an awesome resource for anyone planning a great day out with the kids.

Northern Beaches

The Narrabeen Lagoon Bush Trail is a beautiful scoot along a newly developed boardwalk following the lake line through some awesome quintessential Australian scenery. The total trail is just over 8 km which includes two bridge crossings! There are a number of car parking spaces along the way so you can choose the distance that suits you and your child. There are also BBQ’s and picnic areas along the boardwalk perfect for a rest and a chance to refuel the tank.

Sydney Olympic Park

These trails have everything to guarantee a relaxing and calming scoot through Sydney’s parklands and nature reserves. Not to mention that there is an Olympic size amount of space so kids of every age are able to have a roll around without the fear of the crowds of hustle and bustle. There are endless perfect spots for a BYO picnic along the way to turn a scoot into a day adventure!

Danielle, Keeping Up With The Holsbys

Best place: Bicentennial Park

We go to Bicentennial Park South in Rockdale because a) it has a skate park so you can get a bit of skate bowl action happening (read: totally get in the way of the big boys doing tricks but they are actually always super careful and patient with the little ones….and mums who have to run into the middle and pull a crying kid out), b) it has a cycle and scooter track that runs around the entire area, c) it has a play park area and d) it has a duck river with ducks that love to eat our bread crusts.

Aleney, Boy Eats World

Best place: Cockatoo Island

Scooter Friendly Cockatoo Island has an abundance of space and plenty of hills and tunnels to scoot up, down, around and through. Australia’s answer to Alcatraz, sun drenched Cockatoo Island was a former imperial prison, industrial school, reformatory and gaol, and the site of one of Australia’s biggest shipyards during the twentieth century. It's also one of the only city friendly campsites in the world!

Mim, Love from Mim

Best place: Warners Bay

Warners Bay, with its beautiful foreshore, is on the northeast side of Lake Macquarie and just a 10 minute car journey from home. It’s also only a 2 hours drive from Sydney. The esplanade has some gorgeous cafes and restaurants, one of our favourites being Brown Dog. The foreshore is an 8.9km path and a lovely place to walk, jog, cycle, rollerblade and scoot!

Brisbane

Best place: South Bank

Even though there are many places to scooter around Brisbane, we’ve decided collectively as a family that the best place to scooter in Brisbane is at South Bank. A beautiful part of Brisbane that is filled with luscious lawns/gardens for a family picnic, an amazing path along the river to scooter, a Ferris wheel to look at views and a man made beach to take a dip in after your scooter ride along the river. There truly is something for everyone at South Bank

Be a Fun Mum

Best place: Wynnum Foreshore, Brisbane

One of the unique features about the Wynnum foreshore is the wading pool which is acts like a HUGE pool at 128 metres long. It was built during the great depression and opened in 1933. The pool fills with sea water at high tide and even at low tide, it’s designed to retain water to a depth of 75 centimetres. Such a fun spot for kids.
